Strikes close to home for me, но автор упустила шанс побыть учёным, а не просто наблюдателем.

Mr Schecter would trundle off to the desk in the hall while I went to my room to give him some privacy. After a minute of conversation, I could almost hear Sam say over the wire, “How is Dasha?” To which Mr Schecter invariably replied, “How should I know? She’s sleeping, the door to her room is closed, the light is off.” (The door was never fully closed, and the light was always on.)

Что ей стоило хоть раз не давать ему some privacy и посмотреть, что он скажет, если она будет у него перед глазами?

Меня однажды улчный проповедник спросил: "What happens after you die?" Я запомнил свой ответ:

After you die, you cease to exist, just like before you are born or, technically, before you are conceived, you don't exist. When a baby is born, it doesn't interact with the world in very complicated ways. When my daughter was born, my dad called me and asked, "How is it?" I said, "She blinks from bright light, so she is not blind; maybe she is deaf, I don't know." And then I saw that when you bang the door, the baby is startled: I see, so she is not deaf. And then the baby becomes a toddler and a preschooler; it develops much more of a personality - and so on until adulthood. And when you die, it all goes away. If you die from a heart attack, it goes away quickly, and if you die from Alzheimer's disease, it goes away gradually [проповедник сказал: "for my parents, it is going away gradually"].
