По мотивам одного разговора в реале...

Ситуация: вы приходите домой, а там незнакомец. Увидев вас, он бросается убегать. Перед вами вор. Так получилось, что у вас есть оружие.

Дальнейшие вопросы относятся к этим событиям. Во избежание разночтений подчеркну, что (1) меня интересует морально-нравственный, а не юридический аспект ситуации; (2) так как незнакомец убегает, опасности он для вас и вашей семьи явно не представляет.

It's more like the option of using the rifle or whatever won't even be considered in this situation, same as an option to fall on my knees and pray for the intruder to be struck on the spot by divine justice won't be really entertained. In other words, I answered Yes to the "Нет, не смогу" as if it was not "won't be able to fire", but rather "won't want/need/consider firing".

I answered No to the second question because while I consider firing an inappropriate response, I cannot be sure that the neighbour was able to approach the situation rationally and therefore shot the intruder in cold blood.
