The nice part about being a pessimist is that you are constantly being either proven right or pleasantly surprised.
чтобы это был не такой уж трюизм, добавлю от себя: pleasantly surprised обычно означает, что чего-то не заметили.
впрочем, это тоже сказано в Murphy's Law.
